As an event photographer, I have had the privilege of capturing some of the most exciting and memorable moments in the world of Fishing. One of the events that stands out in my career as a photographer is the World Predator Classic events hosted by Angling Spirit. In this blog, I will share my experiences and highlights from my time as the event photographer for the World Predator Classic events.

The World Predator Classic is an international fishing competition that brings together some of the best anglers from around the world to compete for cash prizes and bragging rights. The event takes place in varying destinations every year, and it attracts thousands of fans and spectators who come to watch the action and see the latest tech and tackle from the fishing industry.

My role was to document the competition, capture the excitement of the event, and provide visual content that would be used to promote future events and to showcase the achievements of the anglers. For the 200 competitors, there were thousands watching and supporting from home. They needed to feel the atmosphere at the click of a button. I had to be ready to capture everything from the early morning launches to the late-night celebrations, and I was always on the lookout for those key moments that would tell the story of the competition.

One of my favorite moments from the World Predator Classic was watching the anglers hook and land their fish. The look of determination on their faces, the tension on both the lines and in the air, and the excitement of landing a big fish made for some truly stunning photographs. I caught many great sequences with Sebastien and Sascha, the German team from Rheinlandboote. I also enjoyed capturing the camaraderie and sportsmanship that was on display among the anglers. Whether they were competing against each other or helping each other out on the water, it was clear that the World Predator Classic was more than just a competition - it was a celebration of the sport of fishing and the people who love it.
Working as a photographer at the angling spirit events was a unique and rewarding experience that enabled me to learn and grow as a photographer. Here are a few ways in which I feel I developed my skills and knowledge of photography while working at these events:
Working under pressure: As an event photographer, you are often working under tight deadlines and challenging conditions. I had to quickly adapt to changing lighting conditions, shifting weather patterns, and other unexpected circumstances to capture the best shots. This taught me how to work efficiently and effectively in high-pressure situations, and it allowed me to develop your skills in improvisation and problem-solving.
Experimenting with different styles and techniques: The angling spirit events provided me with a wide variety of subjects to photograph, including the anglers, their gear, the fish, and the breathtaking natural surroundings. I was able to experiment with different styles and techniques, such as action photography, landscape photography, and portrait photography, and learnt what works best in different situations.
Learning about the technical aspects of photography: To capture the best shots, I had to pay close attention to the technical aspects of photography, such as aperture, shutter speed, ISO, and lens choice. This helped further develop my understanding of the technical side of photography and to create images that are sharp, well-exposed, and beautifully composed.
Networking with other photographers: The angling spirit events brought together a community of passionate photographers who shared a love of capturing the beauty of nature and the excitement of the sport of fishing. I am grateful for the experiences I shared with friends Pete Castle, Ross Honey and more. I have formed lasting relationships and collaborations.
In conclusion, working as a photographer at the angling spirit events was an excellent opportunity to develop my skills and knowledge of photography. By working under pressure, experimenting with different styles and techniques, learning about the technical aspects of photography, and networking with other photographers, I became a better photographer and gained a deeper appreciation for the art and science of capturing images.

Who knows, maybe this year I'll return to capture some more fantastic images with Ross and the team...
